Fashion Insider – John & Pearl

Our newest jewellery brand to bod & ted this Spring/Summer, John & Pearl is relatively new in itself, having only released its first collection in 2012. Founder Julie Hannay, a jewellery designer with years of experience designing luxury costume jewellery brands in London, was disappointed with the lack of creativity in the design procedures and low wages paid to creative staff. With this in mind she decided to create a brand with a strong identity that took into consideration the importance of supporting small-scale British design brands whilst also being relatively affordable.

Julie Hannay’s love of jewellery first started as a child rifling through her granny Pearl’s jewellery box (She is the ‘Pearl’ of John & Pearl, John is her grandfather). With an absolute adoration of colour which also stems from her childhood watching her mother, a painter, painting colourful flowers, John & Pearl creates colourful statement jewellery that is fashionable but with a strong emphasis on originality and quality, a sentiment held dearly at bod & ted and reflected through the kind of brands we like to stock.
